Welcome to Zilker Trek! Where technology and nature go hand-in-hand

A trip to a park or a museum is made more meaningful when there is a context for the experience, a guide to point things out. Unfortunately, for many of us, a guide is not always available when we need one. Zilker Trek mobile media scavenger hunt provides that guide to eight specific locations in Zilker Park using your video iPod. Zilker Trek, though, is more than just a guided tour. It is a hands-on experience that encourages participant to observe, get hand-on and record each experience in a field journal. Each location, with its companion playlist, has a different focus. The trek includes: design of a green garden; identification of birds, butterflies fish and fossils; the creation of original art and poetry; and a hunt for historic artifacts.

The introductory playlist on the iPod introduces the trek and the journal. The final stop on the trek is a capstone activity where participants create either individual or group sculptures from natural materials, photographing them so that they may later be placed in journals.
